Guests Present:  Kate Katcher

Jennifer Johnston called the meeting to order at 7:10 PM.

The minutes of the August 27, 2009 meeting were approved as written.  The review and approval the By-Laws were tabled until the October 22, 2009 meeting.

Discussion of the Kent Film Festival was tabled until either the October 22, 2009 meeting or a special meeting is arranged.  Donna Mangiafico will contact Frank and Patrice Galterio, co-founders of the “Kent Film Festival,” to make arrangements.

Officer Reports:

Linda Watson reviewed the NCAC financial statement through August 2009.

Jennifer Rogers reported that several ads have been purchased by local businesses, but asked the NCAC to remain diligent in efforts to sell additional ads for future shows.  Jennifer also related that it would be helpful if a business donated color copies of the Flagpole Radio Café program.

NCAC Fundraising events were discussed.  Jennifer Johnston asked that NCAC members be prepared to share ideas at the October meeting.

“The Last Supper” tableau was discussed.  The NCAC members had questions about venue and whether the topic is too controversial in its religious nature to be sponsored by the NCAC.  Jennifer Rogers will report back to the NCAC at its October meeting.

Emily Howard will take the lead in organizing a “meet and greet” event with local artists and cultural arts organizations.

Joe Grasso will contact Yale University to discuss the possibility of sponsoring a concert and/or drama performance.  Kate Katcher also offered to look into offering a Christmas Memories concert reading and a Play with your Food event.

Martin Blanco discussed the Radio Flagpole Café.  The September 12, 2009 show with guest artist Vaneese Thomas was spectacular.  There was an excellent write-up in the September 18, 2009 Newtown Bee.  A Charter TV Channel 21 replay schedule can be viewed on Newtownartscommission.org.  The next Flagpole Radio Café is October 24, 2009.  He reiterated the need to increase the number of ads and donations to supplement the ticket sales in order to meet the cost of offering the show.

Rob Kaiser and Jennifer Rogers will begin making plans for a Fezziwig Ball.  This is an event where guests wear period costumes and participate in caller-assisted reel dances.

Donna Mangiafico discussed the NCAC regular meetings.  The Town Hall Managers Office related to her that there will be a cost of using the meeting room of approximately $25 per meeting.  The Mary Hawley room is booked for the October meeting, but is not available for the regularly scheduled November or December meeting.  Donna will contact several places around town to inquire about meeting space.

Pubic Participation:  None

Other Business:  None

The next meeting will be held on Thursday, October 22, 2009, 7:00 PM in the Mary Hawley Room at Edmond Town Hall, 45 Main Street, Newtown, CT.
